A morning at the farm that grows our tomatoes

Four acres, sixty varieties and a farmer who names every crate. Notes from our August visit.

We left Brooklyn at 5am and were picking by 8. Blue Heron grows sixty kinds of tomato, and the farmer can tell you the story behind every one.

What we brought back

Two hundred pounds of heirlooms, a crate of tomato leaves for the spritz, and a plan to put a green zebra on the menu before the season turns.
